london. 10.12.09

Went to the Science Museum in South Kensington with Bro. There's a bazillion FREE museums in London. Brilliant way to appeal to folks who are interested in science/history/art/theater/whatever who can't afford $15 for adults and $12 for kids and $11 for students and $8 for seniors every other Thursday when Mercury is in Retrograde.

Seriously.

More museums should be free.

london. 10.11.09

Today was a day of lounging and recovery. Woke up late (ughhhh. Noon. I blame the jet lag. And maybe the alcohol). But it was all good cus my bro brought me a mocha from my new crack spot fave neighborhood coffee shop.

I lounged for most of the day. Ventured out to try and have my iPod fixed at the Apple store across town, but they weren't havin' it (even though I KNOW they have a special tool to fix my seemingly easy issue. I KNOW IT!). It's all good. There was a work-around and now I'm jammin' again.

Came back J+T's place and lounged, ate a bleu cheese burger (yummm), sipped a Stella, watched football (American - Benglas/Ravens and Niners/Falcons) and here I am.

The photo above? You ever sitting at home and you crave candy and then you remember you have some in your purse? That's what that's all about. Flipping awesome!

Oh! Got on Skype with the family after some technical difficulty. Per the previous post: happy birthday to  my niece and mama. Lorelai wasn't there, so I didn't get to see or talk to her. And so my heart aches a little.

london. 10.10.09.

Started off the morning (at a reasonable time) by hopping on the tube with J&T to Notting Hill for an awesome and CROWDED (!!!) street market. Got goodies for my peoples.

I got myself the blackberries above. So good. Not too sweet or tart. Just right.

Then we made a pact to take a nap. Cus see. We had plans to go out. And going out is like GOING OUT. If you know me, you know I'm kinda a home body. I like to venture out of the house to do things (see: Notting Hill), but at night, I kinda keep it homely. Buckets of fun, really. There's lots of Law & Order: SVU to keep me company.

It was different on Saturday night though. We got up from our nap, ate and rolled out. AT 11:00 PEE EMM! Got on the tube to a spot in town (I forgot where) that had a whole bunch of dancemusic clubs. I flailed around for a bit, and then all of the sudden (a few drinks and flailing dance moves later) it was 2:30 and time to roll home via cab.

Good day, good blackberries, good nap, good night.

london. 10.09.09

I slept a lot (during the day on Thursday). And then I didn't (at night Thursday night/Friday morn). I did this whole jet lag thing all wrong.  But by Friday, I was good to go (after a strangely satisfying 3 hours of sleep).

Hopped up out the airbed, turned my swag on.

Wait.

No.

I got up, got ready, opened a travel book and a travel site to the London section and basically randomly selected my destination. I needed something somewhat out of the way so I could conquer my irrational fear of the tube. I love public transportation. It's cheap, navigable, and the system here is pretty awesome, even compared to BART

I decided on going to Spitalfields Market. Now. I'm sure there's an easier way to get there than the way I did, but I managed to find it. It was cute. There were lotsa crafts. Got some stuff for the fam. Mozied back to my bro's (herein referred to as J) and took a nap in preparation for:

The Zero 7 concert!

Before the show, we went to a pub (pint of Stella, please) and had dinner at a spot called La Porchetta. Very cute, and crowded spot. I had a yummy salad. Not like, "I'll just have a salad and water with half a lemon." Cus see, I had hella lamb/chicken kababs right before my nap. I was still stuffed from that yummy goodness (note to self: find an awesome kebab joint when I get home and indulge in that sh*t allllll the tiiiiiime. YUM!)

I also had hella glasses of wine.

And then one more when I got into the concert.

I wasn't to' up. I was at the right tipsy place to feel comfortable dancing with a lot of people in my personal space without having an anxiety attack.

Though a lot different than the Zero 7 songs I know (apparently there's been band member changes), the show was GREAT!

After the show, J, T and I stopped at a store for goodies for me. I had chips and a candy bar for dessert, watched some Law & Order SVU and crashed without washing my face (regret!)

Amazing day!

london. 10.08.09

Here's where I begin my trip journaling. Feel free to skip any post that begins with 'london.' Cus it's just me blahblahblahing about my FLIPPING AWESOME TRIP.

Flight over wasn't bad. Got on BART, got to the airport, got through and flew. There are certain aspects that I hate about flying (most of it), but this wasn't that bad.

Got to Heathrow Airport and walked forever and retrieved my bag.  Hopped on the tube (after some confusion in buying my oyster card. I hope I didn't get screwed over... I still don't know.)

The train was called the Cocksfoster. And no one was laughing whenever the conducter said COCKSFOSTER. COCKS-FOSTER, ya'll. *wiping tears from eyes.*

Got to my bro/sis-in-law's spot and chilled. Then napped. Then ate. Then fell asleep again.

Woke up at hecka-early o'clock and it threw me off for the next day (today, October 8.) I essentially didn't get out of bed until 2:00-3:00 and didn't get out of the house until 4:00.

So. To sum it up. Thusfar I've been kickin' back.

feet kicked up. by you.

I'll have more things to write about tomorrow.
